Pedometers are being increasingly used as a way to count steps walked every day because they are cheap (many sell for 10 or 15 dollars each), easy to use and can be clipped to clothing or kept in a pocket. Pedometers are often sensitive to the exact placement on one's hip. Pedometers are small devices that measure how many steps a person takes, but it isn't known how well pedometer readings match up with levels of physical activity. Pedometers are designed to track movements, clocking every step. Best pedometers are accurate to within +/- 5% error. Used originally by sports and physical fitness enthusiasts, pedometers are now becoming popular as an everyday exercise measurer and motivator.
