How to stop Caffeine induced insomnia dead in its tracks

You will kick yourself over this one

Anybody that drinks coffee or uses preworkout supps will know what a bitch it can be to then be unable to sleep

I had it last night in fact

Took a shot glass of activated charcoal in water

30 minutes later I was out like a rock.

The typical side effects of caffeine can include:

  • feeling more awake or alert
  • feeling restless, anxious, or irritable
  • increased body temperature
  • dehydration
  • headache
  • faster breathing
  • faster heart rate
  • Symptoms of a caffeine overdose can include:

  • very fast or irregular heartbeat
  • shakiness
  • feeling sick or vomiting
  • confusion
  • panic attack
  • The half-life of a drug is how long it takes for half the drug to leave the body. The half-life of caffeine is 3 to 5 hours.

A person may experience side effects that are unpleasant but not a cause for concern, such as feeling restless or dehydrated. These side effects will usually go away within 3 to 5 hours.

People differ on this and some take up to 8 hours. A further 8-10 hours is required for 75% of the caffeine to be cleared.

In the case of mild side effects, a person can take the following steps at home:

    not drinking any further caffeine
    drinking water to rehydrate
taking a walk to use energy and stop feeling restless
A person who has a caffeine overdose may need medical treatment, including intravenous fluids, supplements, or activated charcoal.

Activated charcoal can stop caffeine from passing through the gut. If caffeine does pass the gut wall, an even higher level could get into the blood and cause further health problems.

Activated charcoal will also remove the caffeine from the blood stream as it flows through the intestinal area & relieve some burden from your liver & kidneys.

It will also bind to minerals & vitamins. If you really need to sleep its worth it to use the charcoal.

Now I cant give medical advice and don’t claim to. But the caffeine & preworkout supps have advantages & disadvantages. Activated Charcoal is a way to minimize the disadvantages. Once the supplements have done the business of amping your training. If you took it too late in the day or just plain too much, charcoal is a quick and easy fix.

It is a powerful detox though & you don’t want to be doing this every day – one or two times per week however may actually be more beneficial than harmful in the correct context.
